Poultry Harvesting Workshop - Oct. 28th, 2017
Ready to take the next step to truly know your food? Come to our chicken processing workshop at Root Down Farm and learn all aspects of raising and humanely processing chickens. In this workshop, farmers will lead you through the entire detailed process of humanely harvesting a chicken for meat. You will have the opportunity to participate (or not participate) at any level you feel comfortable, and go home with your own packaged chicken. Whether you have a few chickens in your urban backyard or are thinking of starting your own poultry farm, these workshops are for you!

What to Expect
Gather for a tour of the farm at 9 am, led by the farm owner, Dede Boies. Following the tour, Dede will explain and demonstrate the entire process of the various ways to harvest a chicken. Participants will be given the opportunity to observe or participate at any level they are comfortable with under the supervision of farmers. After the process and clean up, we will gather as a group for lunch and discussion.

BYO cooler to take home a free chicken. Additional chickens will be available for purchase.
Children under 12 are welcome with a non-participating guardian.
Please allow time to arrive and park. The tour starts promptly at 9 am.
